Our Maui Studio Keeps Us Busy!

We are always awestruck each time we open our kilns at the end of a firing. Hours turn into days as the clear flat glass becomes another of our highly coveted fine art glass pieces.

It starts with float glass, a glass cutter, and a very steady hand!

Scrafito the colors

We are always aware that this might be the firing that fails. Even after decades of loading a kiln, there is always a little bit of adrenaline as we close the lid.

Taking a peek
Cutting glass

This is a masterful process. Sgraffito techniques require a great deal of patience and focus.

Loading the kiln

5 hours later we take our first peek. At 1600 degrees, the heat can take your breath away. And the piece inside looks like molten lava. It's always humbling.
